January 2022: Scoping Process Completed
The scoping process generated significant data and information about the Fortymile River region and included four public meetings
and one virtual public meeting that were conducted in September and October 2022. A scoping report and appendices are available

Overview
The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is preparing a Travel Management Plan for the Fortymile River basin to sort
through concerns and expectations users and stakeholders have for the river and trail corridors in this unique area.
This Travel Management Plan is meant to be a step-down plan to the Upper Yukon Area Plan that DNR developed in 2003 which
provides broad management intent for the region. This plan will focus on more specific management issues in the river and
trail corridors within the region. The plan will develop information about river and trail conditions and uses, possible ways
to address any problems, and opportunities to improve access for existing uses, conservation, or the quality of recreation
experiences. The plan may also address commercial recreation uses and permitting, requirements for long-term camping or
storage in the corridors, and the appropriate vehicle uses on different types of trails.
